The benevolence ministries of Grace Community Church began on the first day of services. The church began putting 10% of its offerings into a special account to help the needy in Williams County. This ministry helps pay people’s gas, electric, rent, prescription, doctor visits and gasoline costs as well as to provide the food we donate annually to local families.
The ministry was incorporated separately in 2001 under the name Community Compassion Inc.. This opened up more avenues for funding and has allowed us to help even more families in the area. The church continues to put 10% of its weekly offering into this ministry. There is much community support as well. Individuals, groups, corporations and the United Way have taken up the cause and donate tax deductible gifts to help further God’s love.
This ministry is used to show God’s love to individuals through practical help. If you would like to donate to Community Compassion you may send a tax deductible check to 206 West Bement Street, Bryan, Ohio, 43506.
We operate a food pantry five days a week. The hours are from 10 am – Noon Monday – Friday. This is open to anyone in Williams County. One of our ladies with a real heart behind this ministry has spent hours developing a menu so that we know we are giving out enough food to last that family 3 meals a day for 3 days. Each box is based on family size. Also, the volunteers who work in our pantry take the time to find out what is going on in the people’s lives and to pray with them.
The Clothing Ministry was begun in 1992. This ministry is for anyone in Williams County who has a need. We hold our Clothing Giveaways at the East Building (614 E Edgerton St) on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Free furniture is available on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month at 8 am at 614 E. Edgerton Street in Bryan. Go to the back of the building to the bay door nearest Garden Street. Please bring a truck and someone to help you load. Furniture is offered on a first come, first serve basis. To see what is available, check out our Facebook page. Pictures are posted the Friday before a giveaway.
Christmas Food Give-away
Each year we help dozens of families with food. Through generous donations from our community we are able to provide each family a grocery cart full of food plus all the fixings for Christmas dinner, as well as cleaning supplies and hygiene products to last the week. This ministry began with food being provided for about 30 families and has grown steadily since. Each family comes to the church the night of the Giveaway and we have a special service for them that includes the plan of salvation. We are seeing more and more impact on those we have been able to help. God is using this ministry to change the hearts of those in our county.
Christmas Toy Giveaway:
Our Christmas Toy Giveaway is a combined effort of the Marine Corp. Toys for Tots Program, Farmers & Merchants State Bank and Coldwell-Banker Realty.
We collect used toys throughout the year and volunteers clean and disinfect them. They are stored and then brought out and added to the new toys. The average child receives some $30-40 in new toys as well as gently used toys, books, games and puzzles, etc. through this program.
Contact the church for the date and times of our next giveaway.
We began to minister at the Bryan Jubilee the first summer we were downtown. Over the years we developed a significant ministry to the carnival workers by providing a home cooked meal for them. In 2001 the Chamber of Commerce asked us if we would be willing to have a tent that served “real food”. We came up with our menu of BBQ pork sandwiches, creamed chicken sandwiches, potato salad, and baked beans. Our specialty item is the “Jubilee Brownie”. This ministry is used as an outreach to our community. We are there to listen if someone needs to talk and we are a place of peace for the weary to rest.
Does your car need its fluids topped off? Lights, brake lights and tire pressure checked?
We will help you get your car winterized. We’ll let you know if we think you need more extensive work. We are blessed to be able to serve in this way every November.
